I've had Apollo Bio Fins since they first came out, circa 2000. While I loved the first three pairs, they all failed in an identical way (the embedded circular washer that holds the fin strap on pushed its way through the rubber due to my rotating the straps each time I took the fins off). So, I decided to give this heel spring strap version a try! These are easier to don and doff than the rubber strap version! I'm assuming I'll have no problem with the strap attachment points on these fins, but only time will tell. The only downsides are that they're more expensive than the rubber strap version, and you need to soak the springs in fresh water after diving to keep them from rusting. These fins perform exceptionally well in terms of low working effort, increased speed and efficiency, and lowered work of breathing. The main downside is that they're lousy as stopping quickly, and the frog kick doesn't really work with them. They do create more turbulence on the bottom, so if you're in a silty environment, or around photographers, or just don't want to disturb the bottom, I'd recommend staying about 6 feet above the bottom whenever possible.
